BONDS AND MILL LEVY OVERRIDES

^ TOP ^

The District was very grateful that voters approved three financial ballot issues in the November 6, 2007 general election:

(1) A $10.7 million bond to upgrade the facilities, including renovating the existing building, making important additions for industrial arts-art-music, a new roof, HVAC upgrades for ventilations, heating and air conditioning, a community center, a track, and a wastewater treatment plant; and replacing staff housing with 7 new units;

(2) A $350,000 per year general fund mill levy override to stabilize our operational budget; and

(3) A $140,000 per year transportation fund mill levy override to help with excess pupil transportation costs.

The District is in the Design Phase of the Project with the Neenan Company, its archistructure design build firm. Principle contractors include Ennovate (HVAC), NorthStar Engineering of Pueblo (wastewater treatment plant), Bret's Electric (electrical upgrades), and Garland Roofing (new metal standing seam, seamless roof.)

Additions include a new industrial arts-art-music wing on the southwest corner of the building, a cafeteria expansion, housing structures providing 8 units for staff, and a community center. Neenan is managing the industrial arts addition, interior renovations, wastewater treatment plant, HVAC upgrades, cafeteria expansion, and track. The District is managing the houses and community center construction.

Renovations include upgrading the HVAC system, installing a new standing seam-seamless metal roof, relocating the office, updating the science room to be a true science lab, relocating the high school computer lab and guidance offices, creating staff and preschool bathrooms, and expanding the library with after hours access.

Community Center Idea

Needs To Be Addressed By This Building Project:

^ TOP ^

Health and Safety:

  1. The current building has poor air quality and no ventilation. Every room tested had unsafe levels of carbon dioxide. There is mold present in some areas due to our leaking roof.

  2. The current roof leaks in multiple locations and has created mold in some spots. The roof needs replacement.

  3. The office is not located by the main entrance of the building. It needs relocation to provide a safer and more welcoming entrance to the building for parents, visitors and guests.

  4. Our floor tiles have asbestos and need abatement and replacement. (Phase 1 abatement: March 21-30, 2008)

  5. Our science classroom is not a true science lab and does not have proper safety equipment, including ventilation, a modern fume hood, gas jets, and an eyewash station.

Wear and tear and energy efficiency:

  1. The main gym floor has only one sanding left and the bleachers are old and falling apart. The floor and bleachers need replacement since this is a major community area and sports arena and event hall.

  2. Almost all windows are single-pane and inefficient. Our boiler system is old and inefficient. We have numerous propane tanks scattered over the property that should be consolidated.

  3. The industrial arts program is housed in an old, drafty pole barn that used to house the buses. We currently can offer woods for a small group of students and occasionally welding. The pole barn needs to be demolished and rebuilt. The proposed new industrial arts-art-music addition includes a wood shop, welding shop, autobody and auto mechanics shop, a paint shop, an industrial arts classroom, an art room with kiln area and pottery studio, a music classroom with a practice room and storage, and male and female bathrooms, including showers.
