Our priority is to ensure our students feel safe, focused, and supported as they return to their normal routines. To move forward effectively, we are taking the following steps:
Reinforcing a Safe Environment: While the investigation is closed, our heightened awareness is not. To respect the privacy of all involved and maintain the integrity of our safety protocols and privacy act, we cannot share specific details regarding the individuals involved, but we can share the next steps to get our students back to their normal routines. We continue to work closely with Officer Wilson to maintain a secure campus. Our district also has IT security in place as well as many physical safety protocols to choose from for each individual safety concern that arises.
At Primero School District, we view school safety not as a single door or a lone security guard, but as a series of interlocking layers. Primero school district utilizes CPTED, which is Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design. Our security protocols are designed so that if one layer is challenged, several others are already in place behind it. Our physical security is backed up by active and passive monitoring technology and the technology is overseen by not just one but multiple district personnel.
Our Commitment to You
By maintaining these layers, we ensure that safety is never dependent on a single person or a single lock. It is a dynamic, living system designed to keep your children in a "bubble" of protection from the moment they arrive until the moment they head home.
Support for Students: We recognize that even the rumor of a threat can cause anxiety. Our counseling team is available for any student who needs a safe space to talk or process their feelings. We also have resources through our website- https://parentguidance.org/all-courses/
Reviewing Lessons Learned: Every incident is an opportunity to improve. We are reviewing our internal communication and response timelines to ensure we are as efficient as possible in the future.
Maintaining Open Channels: We encourage you to continue talking with your children about the importance of "See Something, Say Something." We are grateful to those who brought their concerns forward, as this allows our safety systems to work as intended.
The safety of your children is a responsibility we take a great deal of pride in. We appreciate your trust, your patience, and your partnership in keeping our school community a safe place to learn. If you have any questions please feel free to set up a time to come in and visit with any of us.
After a thorough investigation and coordination with all parties involved, I am confident that there is no threat to our school or our community.
I want to emphasize that the reports were made in good faith, and I am proud of the students who spoke up. Reporting concerns is the right thing to do, and it plays an important role in keeping our schools safe.
Our school has an established process for investigating these types of situations. While that process can sometimes feel frustrating from the outside, it is intentionally thorough. Our children deserve careful, complete investigations every time a concern is raised.
Moving forward, we remain fully committed to the safety of your children and our school community.
As a reminder, if your child sees or hears something that concerns them but wishes to remain anonymous, reports can be made through Safe2Tell at the link below. Safe2Tell is available 24/7, and law enforcement is notified immediately.

We are aware of the social media posts occurring on Facebook. We appreciate your concern for our district and have been working diligently since we were made aware of the reports late yesterday evening. To dispel the rumors circulating on Facebook, here are some facts we want to share with our families: We do not know of, nor have we discovered, a "hit list" or specific targets of anyone. No one from the district currently investigating this has made any comments on Facebook. Any post leading the reader to believe the information is coming from the school is false. Any updated information will be shared with our families through this notification system. We did not have school today out of an abundance of caution, not because the threat was imminent. Our primary focus remains on returning our classrooms to a sense of normalcy on Monday, February 9th. Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we conduct a thorough investigation to ensure the safety of all of our students and staff.
